Day 12

Day 12

After the Zero day in Tucson we were back on the trail at X9 Ranch Road, right where we left it. We pushed through Saguaro National Park and camped at around Mile 145, sharing the site with Tweety and Joe Dirt. Lots of snow at the top, and windy. Manning Camp was buried. The next night was at Gordon Hirabayashi campground. From there, we wanted to make it about 19 miles to Summerhaven where we had a cabin lined up. However, the wind blew strong during the night and as we were breaking camp it began to snow. So we hunkered down most of the morning and ended up camping at Hutch’s Pool. From there, we made it to Summerhaven in time for cheeseburgers before the cafe closed at 4:00. The first part of the climb from Romero Pass was a bit of a scramble at times and much of the rest of the way was slushy snow. Route finding was a bit tricky at times, but we had no major problems with it. Comfy in the cabin now, and Oracle tomorrow.
